If you are on a Medicare Advantage Plan and live in Philadelphia or the suburbs, according to Allen Heffler, President of MyMedicareAdvisor, there could be impactful enhancements to your plan next year. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced a recent change on how it defines “primary health-related” serivces that Medicare Advantage providers are permitted to include in their policies. The goal is to have these policies cover more benefits in order for help these Medicare beneficiaries to lead healthier lives.
Over 60 million Americans are enrolled in Medicare. Of those, about one third have chosen a Medicare Advantage Plan for their health needs. These plans are run privately by insurance companies as an alternative to the traditional government run Medicare health plan.
Most of these Medicare Advantage plans already provide additional benefits that are not covered by traditional Medicare. Many plans provide expanded coverage for dental, vision, eyeglasses, hearing aids and maybe a gym membership. The new ruling which is set to kick-in January 2019 will greatly expand services and medical benefits.
These Medicare Advantage insurers are still designing plans for their 2019 plans. Some possible examples of what might be covered: Have aethma?- Perhaps an air conditioner unit would be covered. Perhaps better healthier food options or deliveries of meals to your home. Perhaps home modification such as the installation of grab bars in the bathroom. Each insurance company that offers Medicare Advantage Plans in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery county will be able to build and design their plans and offer some of these added benefits. The goal is that these expanded benefits might help people stay healthy and independent as well as perhaps avoiding injuries or easing the burden of existing conditions.
Allen Heffler with MyMedicareAdvantage in Willow Grove PA states: “This is great and exciting news for those Medicare recipients who are on a Medicare Advantage Plan. This new ruling will allow insurers to design pllans that will offer expanded services and benefits. Stay tuned! We will know what these plans will offer in October, 2018, with these new benefits being in place for January 1, 2019.” If you have any questions, feel free to call Allen at 215-658-1776.
