Posted by Allen Heffler 3/8/18As an independent Medicare broker in Philadelphia, Allen Heffler is often asked how to choose from one Medicare company verses anther company. First, it is important to understand that Medicare designed the various Medigap Plans- not the individual carriers. Medicare has come up with very fancy names for the different Medigap plans to choose from- Plan F or Plan G or Plan N. Medicare standardized each of these plans. For example, if you decide on a Medigap Plan G, there is no difference between one comapny’s Plan G vs another company’s Plan G. Remember, Medicare is you primary coverage and your Medicare Supplement is your secondary coverage. So, how do I decide which Medigap company to go with? As President of MyMedicareAdvisor, Allen Heffler Medicare has the following answer- “Price is certainly an important consideration. Each lettered Plan is identical from one company to the next- no difference whatsoever in coverage or benefits. And remember, there is no network to worry about. If your doctor accepts Medicare, they must accept your Medigap plan. So, we want to go with a low cost carrier. There is also value to go with a large company that is a leader in Medicare plans, if just for the sake of sleeping well at night. This is not the time to go with a no-name company. Fortunately, you don’t have to sacrifice strong company and price. In the greater Philadelphia area, the are several leading Medicare companies that are also extremely competitive in price.” Allen Heffler realizes that Medicare can be extremely confusing.
